Make it Dramatic!

A Few Things to Consider about Eyelash Growth Serum

I love following celebrity fashions and keeping up with the entertainment industry, but I’m not going to put strange chemicals on my lashes just because a celebrity says eyelash growth serum worked for her. Choosing an eyelash growth product is a difficult decision, especially now that we are learning more and more about the effects of various chemicals on our bodies. I worry enough about all of the chemicals in food. I really don’t want to worry about what an eyelash product might do to my face.

Some Scary Ingredients in Eyelash Growth Products
Some of the facts coming out about the ingredients in some eyelash growth serums are enough to cause nightmares.  Benzalkonium chloride, for example, causes all sorts of problems ranging from irritation if it comes in contact with the skin to lung infections if it’s inhaled.

Another ingredient, Chlorophenisin, is a muscle relaxant that effects the central nervous system. Excuse me, why would I want anything like that in my eyelash enhancer?  I guess I could go with a product that has Ethyl Ether, or maybe I should just rub an industrial solvent on myself!

I don’t mean to sound like a primetime crime drama, but this stuff seriously freaks me out. We’re not talking about cleaning floors, we’re talking about things we use to make ourselves beautiful. We put this on our skin and, in the case of eyelash treatments, around our eyes.

Side Effects of Wanting to be Beautiful
The worst parts are the fact that these eyelash products can cause some serious side effects. I think I’m pretty tough and I can handle irritation, itching, maybe even a little redness. But other possible side effects include permanent skin discoloration, changing the color of my eyes, hair growing out of weird places, and vision problems? I want thicker lashes as much as the next girl, but I’m not willing to risk something like that.

For a lot of us, eyelashes falling out are a result of an underlying illness like hypotrichosis or having to go through chemotherapy. It can seem like a small thing to deal with, but when you can’t even trust your own body, the last thing you want to do is look in the mirror and not even recognize yourself. Using an eyelash growth serum that may cause even more problems for your health and self-confidence just seems like a bad idea.
